May 18th, 2012

Mark Henderson the CEO of HOME Group, with 55,000 social housing units in the UK, spoke to Committee members and invited guests from the housing world in Sydney on the 18th of May. The event was hosted by new Committee member, Arup. Thanks to them and Mark.

We had a great turnout – from community housing providers, the state housing and planning departments and members in involved in housing.

Mark presented on both the overall program of HOME and a specific large project in Gateshead in the northeast of England where HOME is building a new development of 10,000 units with employment space and social facilities in a partnership with the City council and a house-builder. Mark recognised that the scale of what he was doing was different from the NSW examples but he felt that his partnership delivery model might be worth looking at and may be replicable. Mark’s presentation is attached. He can be contracted at HOME for more information and is happy to engage. After briefing the Committee Mark went off to brief the housing and planning ministers and their officials.

The Committee’s planning taskforce will be focusing on the housing delivery issues for Sydney over the next 6 months and is likely to produce a published report on the matter. Watch this space for more details.

Mark's presentation can be viewed here.
