The Committee for Sydney is an independent think tank and champion for the whole of Sydney, providing thought leadership beyond the electoral cycle. Our aim is the enhancement of the economic, social, cultural and environmental conditions that make Sydney a competitive and liveable global city.
Our members include major companies, universities, not-for-profits, strategically significant local governments and state government departments and key cultural, sporting and marketing bodies.
We represent no one sector or interest but we share one passion: Sydney and the role it plays as Australia’s global city. We seek to bring all parts of the city together so that Sydney can ‘collaborate to compete’ more effectively.
Given Sydney’s economic importance to Australia, the Committee’s agenda matters not just for Sydneysiders, but for the nation.
How We Work
If you would like to find out more about becoming a member of the Committee for Sydney, visit the Members pages of our website.
While seeking practical solutions to immediate challenges, we develop ‘big city’ long-term thinking and aim to be visionary, ensuring that Sydney retains and enhances its competitive, global status and key economic role for Australia.
Our experienced Board and Team work with our members and stakeholders to develop innovative, best practice policy and advocate for the enhancement of Australia’s global city. Through our research, advocacy and events programs we stimulate discussion and provide expertise to support decision-makers and promote action on the issues which really matter for Sydney.
We are ambitious for our city and build effective coalitions with those who share this perspective. We promote new kinds of partnerships between the public and private sectors to tackle the issues and opportunities facing Sydney. We have become a ‘go-to’ organisation for government and firm allies of those pursuing the bold reforms that Sydney needs. We provide members with an effective conduit for communication with government and a voice in the public arena on the most important issues for our city.
Bringing together the resources of our Team with the expertise and strategic input from our members, we develop original, evidence-based research and policy development which has traction with decision makers and which provides valuable insight for members.
Engagement & Communication
The Committee has four established Taskforces and a number of Working Groups aligned with our priority areas and initiatives. These groups drive the agenda within these priority areas, provide thought leadership and help identify actions that can be delivered by members or by government.
We offer our members information sharing events and briefings with domestic and international speakers. We also facilitate invaluable networking opportunities with key decision-makers, in both the public and private sectors.
We regularly publish our research, position papers and submissions. Effectively engaging the media we leverage the findings to further drive our agenda, influence policy development and enhance the civic dialogue taking place on the issues that matter to Sydney.
Committees for Cities & Regions Network
The Committee for Sydney is part of a wider network of organisations each working in their particular city or region to enhance their economic, social, cultural and environmental development.
Underpinned by the research, knowledge and projects of the individual Committees the Committees for Cities network has become a centre for national, cross-sector dialogue on the issues of greatest importance to our cities and regions.
